چکیده

Verifying that a concurrent program satisfies a given property, such as deadlock-freeness, is computationally difficult. Naive exploration techniques are facing the state space explosion problem: they consider an exponential number of interleavings of parallel threads (relative to the program size). Partial order reduction is a standard method to address this difficulty. It is based on the observation that certain sets of instructions, called persistent sets, are not affected by other concurrent instructions and can thus always be explored first when searching for deadlocks. More recent models of concurrent processes use directed topological spaces: states are points, computations are paths, and equivalent interleavings are homotopic. This geometric approach applies theoretical results of algebraic topology to improve verification. Despite the very different origin of the approaches, the paper succeeds in comparing partial-order reduction with a construction of the geometric approach, the category of future components. The main result, which shows that the two techniques make essentially the same use of persistent transitions, is of foundational interest and aims for cross-fertilization of the two approaches to improve verification methods for concurrent programs.

A Geometric View of Similarity Measures in Data Mining

The main objective of data mining is to acquire information from a set of data for prospect applications using a measure. The concerning issue is that one often has to deal with large scale data. Several dimensionality reduction techniques like various feature extraction methods have been developed to resolve the issue. However, the geometric view of the applied measure, as an additional consid...

The Relative Improvement of Bias Reduction in Density Estimator Using Geometric Extrapolated Kernel

One of a nonparametric procedures used to estimate densities is kernel method. In this paper, in order to reduce bias of  kernel density estimation, methods such as usual kernel(UK), geometric extrapolation usual kernel(GEUK), a bias reduction kernel(BRK) and a geometric extrapolation bias reduction kernel(GEBRK) are introduced. Theoretical properties, including the selection of smoothness para...

Effect of Phase-Encoding Reduction on Geometric Distortion and BOLD Signal Changes in fMRI

Introduction Echo-planar imaging (EPI) is a group of fast data acquisition methods commonly used in fMRI studies. It acquires multiple image lines in k-space after a single excitation, which leads to a very short scan time. A well-known problem with EPI is that it is more sensitive to distortions due to the used encoding scheme. Source of distortion is inhomogeneity in the static B0 field that ...

A Revision of Geometric Training of Architects from Islamic View

This article is about value-based foundations of internalizing of geometry in young students of architecture. Training of geometry has long been an important part of architectural education that can be pursued back up to ancient Egypt and Babylon. But in modernity it has passed a radical change from a sacred one to a value-free job. But more precise look will show that this value-free claim has...

Partial order reductions for checking

The paper deals with veriication of untimed branching time properties of Time Petri Nets. The atomic variant of the geometric region method for preserving properties of CTL and ACTL is improved. Then, it is shown, for the rst time, how to apply the partial order reduction method to deal with next-time free branching properties of Time Petri Nets. The above two results are combined ooering an ee...
